Pity Us occurs as village in County Durham in England. the title probably arose as a semi-humorous term for even a barren piece of land, or as a distortion of the French diminutive thousand (little sea: explorer, water). Locals claim the term arose because monks sang a 51st psalm when you took their flight from either a Viking invasion. A Latin words of the psalm come: "Miserere mei, Deus", meaning "Pity me, O God" within English. These are placed northwards of Framwellgate Moor and west of Newton Hall, and is the house of the Arnison Centre, one of Durham's retail parks.
